I made this project as a field test for Substance Painter, Xgen in Maya and Unreal Engine 5. It's not a realtime game model but I decided to render it in Unreal Engine 5 being especially curious about the Metahuman skin and eyes shader.
I started by gathering a lot of references to get a clear vision on what the final model is going to look like, including the pose - as I wasn't relying on any ready concept art. I began sculpting the body in Zbrush and making eyelashes, brows and hair in Maya Xgen. After that I did the outfit in Marvelous Designer and did a clean quad retopology in Maya to have an easier time on refining the clothing in zbrush. Staying in Maya I switched to polymodeling the Air Jordan 1 shoes, an important part of a Michael Jordan fan appearance :) At this point I started testing the hair and eyes in Unreal Engine 5.
Meanwhile after finishing all the character accesories and the UVs in Maya I exported the model to Substance Painter to start the texturing process of the outfit, ball and glasses. Then I transferred the Metahuman mesh topology onto my sculpt to use it's shaders and textures which I modified to my own purposes. I also used metahuman eyes and teeth/tongue as it already included a precoded shader for iris that looked really good.
After getting all the meshes and textures into Unreal Engine 5 I composed the scene and shaders, and started animating the sequence for the presentation. Later I moved on to rendering stage refining a lot of the steps for quality in the process. Finally I edited and rendered the whole video in Davinci Resolve and concluded the project.
Cheers!
